Small Sal Ficarotta Circle

Salvatore Ficarotta is a lifelong YMS player turned dedicated coach, bringing over five years of coaching experience to the club. Known for blending a technical, tools-based approach with a strong emphasis on character-building, Sal channels his deep-rooted passion for the game into helping players grow both on and off the field.

Sal grew up in Yardley and spent seven formative years playing at YMS before graduating from Pennsbury High School. He began his collegiate playing career at Bucks County Community College, where he was part of the most successful team in the program’s history. That memorable season also saw his coach, Justin, break the all-time league record for wins. Sal credits this experience with reigniting his passion for the game and creating lifelong friendships. He later continued his playing career at Bloomsburg University, competing at a high level while earning his degree.

His playing career also includes semi-professional experience, both in the United States and Australia. While abroad, Sal competed in the Victorian NPL and State Leagues for Springvale White Eagles and Brandon Park FC. Back in the U.S., he played in the regional APSL for Philadelphia Heritage, AC Trilogy, and Lighthouse FC—teams known for their competitive edge and commitment to development.

At YMS, Sal currently coaches the 2012 Girls Rebels (Elite), 2015 Boys Leverkusen, 2015 Boys Leipzig, and serves as Assistant Coach for the 2010 Girls Force (Elite). He is admired for his calm demeanor and ability to foster creative, responsible players. “I believe in giving young players the tools for creativity and then guiding them to think for themselves,” Sal says, emphasizing an approach that nurtures independence and decision-making on the field.
One of Sal’s proudest coaching moments was leading his first youth team to a championship—a powerful affirmation of the impact he can make as a coach. For him, soccer is more than a game; it’s a platform for teaching resilience, responsibility, and integrity. “Character is intrinsic and interwoven,” he explains, reinforcing how personal development is central to his coaching philosophy. His advice to players is simple but powerful: “Work hard and continue to be positive. Keep pushing yourself.”

Currently pursuing his USSF D License, Sal is committed to deepening his technical knowledge and continuing his professional development. Off the field, he shares a close connection to YMS with his younger brother Joe, who also coaches at the club. A passionate supporter of Manchester United, Sal brings intensity, creativity, and care to every training session he leads.
