MICK MCALLISTER
A cornerstone of the YMS coaching staff for more than a decade and a half, Mick McAllister brings over 16 years of coaching experience to the club. Originally from Barrow, UK, Mick’s British roots and lifelong connection to the game have shaped his direct, fundamentals-first approach to player development.
Mick currently coaches the 2009 Celtic Ghirls and the 2010 Girls Force, where his focus on precision and team unity sets the tone. His coaching mantra is straightforward and powerful:
“Do the fundamentals correctly. Have the team play with and for each other.”
He attended Holker High School and Abbey Rd College of Education, and brings elite-level playing insight from his professional experience. Mick played for Netherfield United in the UK and later for Turbo Furstenfeldbruck in Germany, gaining international experience that now informs his approach on the sidelines.
Among his proudest coaching achievements are two State Cup Final appearances—moments that speak to both his players’ growth and his impact as a coach.
For Mick, youth soccer is a training ground for life:
“Character is so important. Setting goals for players and making them responsible helps develop that character.”
What drives him to coach year after year?
“I’ve been involved with the game since I was 7 years old. It’s a huge part of my life.”
He teaches accountability and self-motivation, encouraging players to:
“Control what you can control. Look to your own game first, then look to help your teammates.”
Mick is a proud supporter of the one and only Glasgow Celtic, bringing that same passion and pride to every YMS training and match.
