DANIEL GRONNOW
Originally from England, Dan Gronnow brings over two decades of coaching experience, a strong technical foundation, and an energetic, player-first approach to his role at YMS. A fixture in the club for the past 10 years, Dan is known for his engaging personality, steady leadership, and deep commitment to player development.
Dan studied at Darland High School and earned his degree from the University of Liverpool. At YMS, he currently leads several teams across age groups and competition levels, including the 2014 Boys Roma, 2011 Girls Dynamite, and 2013 Girls Revolution. Beyond team coaching, Dan plays a key leadership role in the club as he helps run both the YMS Recreation Program and the YMS Adult League.
Dan’s coaching philosophy centers on creating players who are comfortable on the ball, technically sound, and confident decision-makers. His sessions emphasize creativity, repetition with purpose, and game-like scenarios. “Players should be comfortable on the ball, technically strong, and always learning,” he says.
He also prioritizes character development as much as skill, believing that the best athletes are also respectful, hardworking, and thoughtful teammates. “Technique and character are both equally important if you're going to be successful” Dan explains.
His passion for coaching is driven by the players themselves. “Kids are great! They're fun, and they're interesting,” he says, emphasizing his lighthearted, supportive style that fosters confidence and joy.
Dan holds several high-level coaching credentials, including the NSCAA Premier Diploma, UEFA C License, and the BFUT Brazilian C License, all of which reflect his commitment to continuous growth and international best practices.
Outside of soccer, Dan is a proud father of two and remains deeply embedded in the soccer community at every level. He is a lifelong supporter of the England national team, bringing his heritage and enthusiasm to every session he leads.
