John is from Denaby Main, England, where he spent 30 years playing soccer at the junior school, high school, youth club, and senior club levels, before moving to the United States. He has been with YMS for over 20 years, including 18 years as Director of Coaching.

John coached the YMS Girls Premier Xplosion '98 in their five appearances at USYS National Championships, including their national title win in 2016. He also coached the Boys Premier Xplosion '92 who were 2010 Region I champions.

John's coaching qualifications include UEFA B License, ENGLISH FA Preliminary Coaching License Levels 1,2,3, NSCAA Director of Coaching Diploma, and NSCAA Goalkeeper Diploma.

Throughout his coaching career, John has received several awards, including 2011 NSCAA National Boys Coach of the Year, 2013 EPYSA Girls Coach of the Year, 2015 EPYSA Girls Travel Coach of the Year, 2016 US Youth Soccer Girls Coach of the Year.
