MAKSYM SHEVCHENKO
Originally from Bila Tserkva, Ukraine, Maksym Shevchenko brings global perspective, professional playing experience, and a passion for character development to his role at YMS.
Prior to attending Drexel University, Maksym played professional soccer for FC Arsenal Bila Tserkva, FC Desna Chernihiv, and FC Skala Stryi—Ukrainian clubs known for their competitive intensity and player development. These experiences sharpened his technical foundation and taught him the discipline, focus, and resilience needed at the highest levels of the game.
Maksym graduated from Buena Regional High School and later earned a degree in Biology from Drexel University.
Now in his first year at YMS, Maksym coaches both the 2017 Boys Academy and the 2012 Boys age groups. His coaching philosophy emphasizes strong fundamentals and inner drive: “I believe a player is set apart by the desire to improve,” he says. “As long as that desire is there, everything else will come.”
He also stresses the importance of character, seeing soccer as a vehicle to teach life lessons about perseverance, accountability, and emotional balance. “Never lose the joy that is in soccer. If the joy is gone, then what is left?”
Off the field, Maksym enjoys spending time with his family, reading, and continuing his education in the sciences. He is a loyal supporter of FC Barcelona.
